Reducing startup times is essential for delivering a smooth viewer experience in low-latency live streaming. However, the standard CMAF setup often results in startup delays due to separate requests for manifests and audio and video segments. This presentation will detail how consolidating audio and video into a unified data unit and embedding the latest MPD data can significantly improve typical client-visible metrics and resolve synchronization issues. The talk will cover optimizations made to the TikTok live streaming platform, including those applied at the origin, CDN edge, and adjustments made to the player to manage CPU load.
